If you want the best possible viewing conditions for a biobay visit then plan your trip when there is NO VISIBLE MOON in the sky. Plan ahead!

It is allways beautiful in a kayak in the water at night, moon or not!

The best of the Vieques kayak trips start at 4 pm, visit the mangroves, beach and then the biobay after dark! There are many biobay tour operators.

PLEASE NOTE: There are about 8 nights each month ( BEFORE) the full moon when visibility is limited because the moon gets brighter in the sky during the early evening. Those are the nights to avoid if possible. SO, where you see the moon below, bioluminescent visibility will be impaired, in relation to the size of the moon shown in the charts below.

Kayaking in the moonlight is amazing too!

These calendars show how bright the sky is just after sunset ( it does not matter how bright the moon is later in the evening, you won't be there!).

Viewing the bioluminesence is impaired by moonlight! BUT, it is always beautiful in a kayak out on the biobay, moon or not!

Risks: West Nile Virus exists in the mosquito population, spread by migrating birds to the Caribbean. You should always protect yourself from mosquito bites. There is a safe alternative bug repellant that does NOT contain DEET. You should find it and use it while in Vieques, and everywhere for that matter! There is also DENGUE in Puerto Rico currently.
