Five nights lodging IN the El Yunque rainforest.
Locations can vary after careful assessment of the groups preferences. Extensive questionnaires will help us adapt each trip to the particular group.
All tours start on a Wednesday and end the following Monday. Additional workshops available on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday in San Juan.
Our lodging is in a private rainforest villa with lovely views and paths to the rivers, waterfalls and streams. The native 'Coqui' is a tiny tree frog with a big voice that sings its lullaby each night.
Wednesday. Arrive San Juan. Transportation departs San Juan on or before 6 PM. You must meet up with the group before 6 PM, in San Juan. ( We can help you find lodging in San Juan the night before if your flight arrives after 5:00 PM). Dinner stop at a local seafood restaurant by the beach on way to our 5 night Rainforest Lodging in the mountains. .
Thursday. Full day 1. Breakfast at lodging. Photo morning on the El Yunque rainforest paths, rivers and waterfalls below the lodging. Lunch at lodging, 2 hours session in Adobe Photoshop. Afternoon shoot on the lower river ( down the mountain) with the petroglyphs and waterfalls. Quiet early dinner at the next door Ecolodge restaurant.
Weather: Please note: 'Winter' sun ( but there is no 'winter') sets every night about 6 PM in Puerto Rico. Temperatures will range from 68 in the mountains at night to 82 at the beach during the daytime. . Ocean water temperature is about 82.
Friday. Full day 2. Very early morning light on a small island ( arrive by motorboat). Dramatic beach scenes with coconut trees, white sand and beautiful clear water. ( Lunch break, picnic and swimming on a beautiful private sandy beach) You will need a bathing suit if you wish to swim during the mid day break. 2 PM Drive to Old San Juan. Late afternoon shoot in the Spanish colonial city of Old San Juan. Setting sun lights up the old Spanish fortresses. Dinner in Old San Juan in one of the old city's' many culinary delights..
Option: Instead of this afternoon in Old San Juan we can keep the boat and snorkel an offshore reef. You can use any underwater camera you have to photograph the fish. This is not an 'underwater photography' workshop, just a chance to use your underwater camera if you have one. We can never be sure how clear the water will be on any given day. An opportunity to snorkel on the reefs as well. . To be decided after reviewing each groups preferences.
Saturday. Full day 3. Breakfast at lodging. Early morning around the very scenic Maunabo coastline and Punta Tuna lighthouse and beaches. ( no swimming) See photos of Maunabo area we visit: Faro Punta Tuna lighthouse • Maunabo Marshes • Faro beach and lighthouse. Lunch at Los Bohios restaurant on a Maunabo beach. Early afternoon stop in the south coast town of Guayama, with its church, lovely park and Museum ( a restored Spanish house). Steep scenic drive up the mountains above Cayey. Early dinner up in the mountains at the magnificent Jajome Terrace Restaurant, with views of the mountain ranges down to the sea of the south coast. Dinner at 5 PM with the setting sun.
Sunday. Full day 4. Early breakfast at the lodging. Up to the top peaks of the El Yunque rainforest, above the clouds. We will have private access to the top by the service road, hiking with equipment will not be an issue. The eerily lit dwarf forest is fascinating and unique. Very unusual and difficult natural lighting conditions, best conditions are when the clouds cover us. Picnic lunch in a forest gazebo by a rushing stream. Back to the lodging for a second session on the computer enhancing your photos in Adobe Photoshop. Grill night dinner in Las Croabas restaurant. Evening option of a kayaking trip into the marvelous Fajardo bioluminescent bay.
Monday. Departure of Rainforest lodging after breakfast and drive back to San Juan.
Additional options: Longer trips are possible.
Optional. Sunday evening trip to visit the Fajardo bioluminescent bay, for those who would like to see this spectacular natural wonder. Not a photo excursion; as it requires very specialized equipment to photograph. Kayak trip is included if desired.
Please Note: This itinerary is suggestive only. Once you sign up you will be given a questionnaire and the final itinerary of any particular trip will be adapted to the wants of the group. There are many possibilities.
