Tablón Reef with Juvenile Queen Anglefish

Juvenile Queen Anglefish photos above by Rumi

Anglefish are usually rather shy (but not always). This one, above, kept under the rocks and was hard to capture. There's a very shallow reef in Ensenada Honda called 'Tablón', where you can glide over densely packed corals ( mostly Gorgonians) and the sunlight is very strong, because of your proximity to the surface. All this adds uip to great picture taking! Even with a disposable camera. You don't need flash. Sea Fans on Tablón.

You can only reach Tablón ( and Berlin reef too) on a motorboat, although I have kayaked there on calm days... But you really have to know the area to reach it by kayak, it's a very large bay and hard to get to. Strong, healthy, experienced snorkelers could consider hiring a local guide and kayaking there. It is much asier to take a motorboat trip.

There is a huge French Anglefish on the windward side of Berlin, that twirls in the water, a beautiful site! Skittish too so gotta look fast.
